City Council - Ward 1

Please vote in the General Election: November 5th
Committed to public service
My career has been devoted to helping people and serving the public good.
As a public interest attorney, I’ve learned how to engage with people who have different viewpoints and work cooperatively to find a path forward. I’ve learned how to work effectively with government organizations to make change. Most importantly I’ve learned how difficult life is for those with insufficient housing, economic, and educational opportunities. I will bring these skills and experiences to the Richfield City Council.

As former chairperson of the Richfield Human Rights Commission, I improved access to justice by accomplishing two major objectives:
Established free legal advice clinics
Established a free legal kiosk at the Richfield Municipal Center
Building a Better Richfield for Everyone
My priorities include:
Increase Affordable Housing
Affordable housing contributes to our community's well-being. As a public interest attorney, I have deep experience in helping both homeowners and tenants. I will work to increase the amount and variety of affordable housing in our community.
Enhance Our Local Spaces
Our most precious spaces require our attention. Please join me, as I lead the effort to Vote Yes for the referendums supporting the Woodlake Nature Center, the Richfield Pool and Richfield Community Center.
Invest In Our Infrastructure
While many upgrades have been made in our city, I will focus on improvements to Penn Avenue and the Hub area.

Simon Trautman, Member, Richfield City Council
“Walter is everything you could ask for in a community leader. He is a talented and selfless public attorney. He’s raised his family here. I have observed his leadership closely on the Human Rights Commission. In a space where it’s easy to be performative or settle for nice rhetoric, he used his leadership to expand access to legal services. He did this through providing multiple legal clinics and setting up a virtual kiosk in City Hall that allows people to attend hearings, access forms and self help from the county. He is a doer not just a talker. He has my full support. In this last month I hope people will join me in knocking on doors and hosting his sign in their yards.”
